Readying For Old Home Week

The busiest 10 days in Canadian harness racing kick off Thursday evening at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park as the capital oval prepares for Old Home Week racing.

First race post time is 7 P.M. for the 12 dash card featuring the first leg of the Alpine $5,000 claiming series with divisions in races 7 and 11.

Come On Eileen is favoured in the first $1,750 Alpine split with Kenny Arsenault in the bike for owner-trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague. The four-year-old daughter of Sportswriter was a winner in 1:57.4 in her latest outing and faces seven Thursday rivals including My Ideal Hanover (Gilles Barrieau) and Scarlet Safari (Marc Campbell).

The second division has Macnamarra favoured with Barrieau in the bike for owner-trainer Walter Walker of Inverness, N.S. Four Brass Starz (Ken Murphy) and Windsong Lisa (Arsenault) are also picked for top spots in the nine-horse field.

The $1,850 Open trot takes the spotlight in race 10 on the program with two rivals renewing their struggle but with a new addition to the mix. Post 7 and 8 belong to Osprey Impact (Walter Cheverie) and Freddie (Campbell), respectively, with the top notch pair of trotters trading blows with neither winning two weeks in a row.

Murmur Hanover now lands in P.E.I. and gets post 6 in his Island debut for driver Jason Hughes, conditioner Jennifer Trainor and owner Danny Birt of Stratford.

The classy seven-year-old son of Majestic Son has 18 lifetime victories and $734,099 in career earnings while racing the Woodbine Entertainment Group Circuit in Ontario, trotting in 1:55.1 in his latest outing.

Race 9 is sponsored by Macpherson Roche Smith Chartered Professional Accountants and Management Advisors with Jinglewriter getting the nod as the morning line choice with Adam Merner steering for trainer Ron Gass and owner Alex MacPhee of Clyde River.

Jayport Sport ships into P.E.I. for Old Home Week action in race 5 for trainer-driver Danny O’Brian and owner Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B. The post four starter had been racing at Georgian Downs in Ontario for O’Brian, formerly of New Brunswick.
