Battle Consol To Phantom Seelster
Aug 7

Sprocket tried to run away with the $20,000 Battle Of Waterloo Consolation this afternoon at Grand River Raceway but he was hauled down late after some speedy fractions.

As the race got underway Notabadgame made a break while Sprocket, leaving from the rail for trainer Wayne Henry, paced away from the field and had a several length lead by the opening quarter of :27.3.

It was a one horse race as he had 10 lengths on his rivals at the :55.3 half. The lead was shrinking down the backside though and when Sprocket paced by the 1:25.1 third panel he had company from Phantom Seelster driven by Wayne's brother Trevor.

That gorgeous roan colt hit the wire first in 1:56.2. Notabadgame recovered from the early miscue to take second while Atomic Seelster was third.

It was the third win in five lifetime starts for the Mach Three gelding owned by trainer Marcel Barrieau, Gestion Mastel and Conrad Leber of Quebec. A $74,000 yearling at the Forest City Sale, Phantom Seelster is the third foal from Pantecostal, a full sister to Panagler ($578,000).
