Enterprise Upsets In Second Hambletonian Elim
Aug 5

5-1 shot Enterprise came up the inside to win the second $100,000 Hambletonian elimination for sophomore trotting colts in 1:52 flat Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands.

Tim Tetrick had Enterprise on top at the 28 second opening quarter, but What The Hill (David Miller) moved around him from third to grab command before the :55.4 half.

It would be Perfect Spirit (Ake Svanstedt), who had landed in fourth from post ten, coming first-over on the final bend, and he joined What The Hill on the front at the 1:24 three-quarters.

In the lane Perfect Spirit and What The Hill continued to race side-by-side, but a lane at the inside became available for Enterprise, and he poured through it, getting up to win by about a length and a half. Devious Man (Andy Miller) was up for second from post nine, followed by Perfect Spirit, What The Hill, and Dover Dan (Brian Sears).

Tetrick seemingly lost his best chance to win the Hambletonian when Walner couldn't go, but he picked up another son of Chapter Seven in Enterprise and might have regained the horse to beat after all.

"He raced really good today. He's a big, strong colt," said Tetrick. "I feel so bad for the connections of Walner, he was a great horse, but we've got to worry about Enterprise now.

"He likes to leave. That's kind of part of his game. Once I got there, I didn't care if Dave (Miller and What The Hill) came back or not, but he did. I got a great trip after that. My horse shot up the inside and raced a really good race.

Marcus Melander trains Enterprise for owner Courant Inc. A winner in one start as a 2-year-old, Enterprise has won five times from seven attempts this year. He has put away $118,272 in 2017 and $124,272 lifetime.

"The horse was pulling too hard before the race, but Tim managed to keep him calm and got him a good trip," offered Anders Strom, the winning owner. "He managed to sort him out in the stretch as well, and I guess that was it.

"It's a five- or six-horse race for me, so I'm going to handicap it now."
