Takter Exacta In Peter Haughton Memorial
Aug 5

You Know You Do, the 3-2 favourite, led a one-two finish for trainer Jimmy Takter in the $360,605 Peter Haughton Memorial for 2-year-old colt trotters on Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands.

Takter driven Samo Different Day shot through from post one to take the field through opening-half panels of :28 and :56.1, but You Know You Do (Yannick Gingras) came first-over from third past the half and joined the tempo-setter at the 1:25.3 three-quarters.

Samo Different Day and You Know You Do battle continued into the lane, but You Know You Do took over before the eighth pole and then kicked on to win by about three lengths in 1:54.2. Samo Different Day just held off Farsetti Hanover (Marcus Miller) to finish second.

"We saw him when we were in Lexington at Carter Duer's farm," said winning co-owner Marvin Katz. "We kept him on our consideration list, and when we got to Harrisburg we put together a group and went after him vigorously.

"It's really a policy of a pursuit of excellence, and we thought he could fit this category."

Takter trains You Know You Do, a Muscle Hill colt, for owners Howard Taylor, Order By Stable, Bud Hatfield, and the Mkatz Alibfeld Sgoldband partnership. The third-highest priced yearling at the Standardbred Horse Sale last year ($350,000), You Know You Do has won three times from four starts and earned $215,947.
