Resolve Defeats Marion Marauder In Cashman

Resolve, driven and trained by Ake Svanstedt, won the $303,050 John Cashman Memorial for open trotters by 4 1/4 quarter lengths in a time of 2:04.2 for the mile and an eighth race on Saturday at the Meadowlands.

The mile time in the sixth race distance event was 1:50.1.

Resolve is owned by Hans Enggren and was bred by Ted Wilson of Seagrave, Ontario, and Michael Pozefsky.

The victory was the third in 18 starts for the year for earnings of $335,995 toward $2,544,429 for the career of the 6-year-old son of Muscle Hill.

The 12 horse field was led to the first quarter by Resolve, who hit the first quarter 26.3, with Crazy Wow (Yannick Gingras) behind them. Those two led the field to the 55.1 half when Marion Marauder (Scott Zeron) came up to challenge on the outside, just before the 1:22.3 three quarters, around the final turn, and took the second spot away from Crazy Wow.

Resolve trotted away from the field in the homestretch for the win. Resolve returned $7.00, $4.00 and $3.80. Marion Marauder, paying $4.00, $3.00, was second and Lookslikeachpndale returned $14.20 in third with Daniel Dube driving.

“(Last year's Hambletonian winner Marion Marauder) was the horse to beat before the race,” said Svanstadt. “But Resolve was good enough.”

Asked if Resolve was as good as Sebastian K, “Not yet, It’s hard to beat [1]:49,” he said.
