McNair’s Team At Pompano
Apr 15

Ontario trainer Gregg McNair had a half dozen starters in qualifiers this morning at Pompano Park including stable star Solar Sister and a half-brother to Sportswriter.

American Sportsman, a Somebeachsomewhere three-year-old, was making his 2017 debut in the fifth test of the morning which he won by a neck over Uncle Reimus in 1:56.2. McNair owns the youngster with breeder James Avritt of Kentucky and Bloomingwoods Farms of Harriston, Ontario.

American Sportsman is the sixth foal of Precious Beauty whose previous offspring include Sportswriter ($1.6 million) and Precocious Beauty ($869,000).

American Sportsman made just two starts last year at two, both at The Red Mile. He finished second, by a neck, in a later closer and then broke in this second start in mid October.

Solar Sister, a winner of $1.1 million to date, finished second in her qualifier this morning as did stablemates Hill Of A Colt and Magnum J while Deo Galileo finished third and Bills Fella fourth in their contest.
