Second Straight For National Seelster
Mar 19

National Seelster, whose baby brother Nascar Seelster made his first lifetime start last week and older brother Nirvana Seelster is a stalwart on the tough WEG circuit, recorded his second straight victory last night at Yonkers.

Driven by Matt Kakaley the five-year-old Bettors Delight gelding went gate to wire and held on to win in 1:55.3 in the $26,000 race over a track rated Sloppy. The time was a tick faster than his win last weekend at the New York half-miler.

National Seelster (Chris Gooden)

It was the 50th lifetime start for National Seelster who tipped over the $300,000 lifetime earnings mark. Bred by Seelster Farms, he was purchased at the 2013 Harrisburg Sale by Robert Mondillo of Ohio and Oompas Farm of New Jersey for $50,000, the horse has been raced throughout his career by Chris Ryder.

National is the third foal from No Strikes Against. He’s a half-brother to Nirvana Seelster ($554,000) and Nitro Seelster ($184,000). The former is a WEG regular raced by Bill Budd who earned more than $240,000 last year at five racing primarily in the WEG preferrers.

Their Mach Three three-year-old brother Nascar Seelster made his first lifetime start at Woodbine for trainer Bob McIntosh who co-owns with Dave Boyle, Mardon Stables and James Walker of Ontario where he finished a close second after a first up trip from the back.

An $87,000 yearling at Harrisburg, Nascar Seelster is into go tomorrow night at the Toronto track where he’s drawn post seven in the eighth race.

McIntosh is quite familiar with the family as he campaigned and still owns the second dam, Strike A Balance ($121,000), millionaire Strike An Attitude. and also trained the third dam, millionaire Delinquent Account. The latter mare is responsible for another of McIntosh’s former stable stars, Artiscape (she is also the granddam of If I Can Dream ($2 million); Western Shore ($1.2 million); Western Terror ($1.2 million); etc.
