So Be It, who at 35-1 was the second-longest shot on the board, rallied from well off-the-pace to win Saturday night's $17,000 invitational handicap pace at Balmoral Park.
Special Joe (Mike Oosting) was in the lead through panels of :27.3, :56.1, and 1:24, but he gave way to the first-over charge of favourite Well To Do Guru (Casey Leonard) in the lane.
Well To Do Guru couldn't hold on late, though, and So Be It (Dean Magee), who was positioned eighth at three-quarters, blasted home with a :26.3 final kicker to get up for the win by a length and a quarter. St David Hanover (Marcus Miller, six wins on the card) was second and Thisbigdogwilfight (Todd Warren) came in third.
Kimberly Rinker trains So Be It, a five-year-old Western Ideal gelding, for owners Leon Zimmerman and Tom Fanning. So Be It has three wins from 16 attempts this year, and he has 18 career victories. He has earned $23,310 in 2012 and $68,087 in his life.
